  • A case is built for a theological principle and model of the church which declares that a presbytery can become a covenant community of justice and loyalty. Two illusions are reframed: that a constitution is clear and just; and, that everyone knows how people should behave. It is proposed that alterations of law, informed by considerations of justice, and an unveiling of ethical norms, result in the claiming of identity and are marks of faithful Christian response. The changes suggested carry the promise of redirecting negative energy expended in two ecclesiastical judicial cases to positive energy for building covenant community.
