  • The thesis for this project grew out of an ecological crisis faced by the residents of the Mohawk area when a toxic waste disposal and treatment facility sought to locate in their community. The community group that organized to resist the facility's construction was well organized and active, but manifested parochial and anthropocentric characteristics. The author hypothesized that through sermons, a study group, and an eco-justice statement, members of the Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church would come to understand eco-justice from a more global and theocentric perspective. The results were particularly beneficial with the study group members.
