  • This project involves a training program implemented in an African-American church that was designed to equip potential small group leaders with the competencies and personal commitment to become effective and empowered small group leaders. Twelve adult participants completed the twelve-week leadership training program that was primarily developed from the meta-model. A battery of instruments was used to assess the effectiveness of the program and skills acquired by the participants. The implications drawn from this study indicates that an effective small group ministry is not only possible to develop within the African-American churches but is very much needed.
