  • The purpose of this project is to develop a lay leader (elder) selection process that will more consistently yield quality elders in congregationally governed local churches. It explores the biblical foundations for such a process and discovers the need for it through thirty-three church surveys and contemporary literature. Exodus 18, Numbers 11, I Samuel 16 are the Old Testament passages examined and Acts 1:21-26 and 6:1-6, I Timothy 3:1-7, and Titus 1:5-10 are the New Testament passages. The project unveils a four-step process with appropriate forms that will enable these churches to select better elders. There is a record of the implementation of the process and an evaluation of how the process worked.
