  • Christian nurture is an attempt to create an environment where the scriptures and traditions of the church interact with individual life stories. In a small group setting, based on the concepts of the Wesleyan class meeting and faith development theory, the author initiated a pilot program on new member nurture. The major problem addressed is how to sustain those who become members of the church. The primary result was that both old and new members discovered a nurturing environment within the context of the larger institutional church. In the process, individual theological struggles and a stronger sense of Christian community evolved.
