This project addresses the need to deal with clergy who have been labeled 'ineffective.' In the model a district superintendent develops a supportive pastoral relationship with three clergypersons. They engage in a process of identifying their personality types, sharing their life journeys, and working with the superintendent to develop a performance covenant to move them to effectiveness. This is part of a larger design in which the district superintendent is viewed as the bonding agent for vitalization in the United Methodist Church. The model suggests that new life, commitment, and energy can be unleashed when district superintendents give pastoral support to clergy whose ministries lack effectiveness.
