- Preaching is a week-in and week-out task for ministers of the gospel. Preparing to preach within the context of numerous other pastoral duties can make it difficult to see past the coming Sunday. At times, this limited vision may create a feeling that Sunday sermons have little connection from week to week. This project is designed to bring cohesiveness to the preaching task. By creating a sense of direction and purpose over a year's time, preaching can be seen not as a series of isolated events but integral parts of an overall plan. Examination of the Christian year and lectionary and the impact these interdependent entities have on preaching provide a framework for the preaching planning guide. Chapters 1 and 2 respectively look at the history, development and current status of the Christian year and lectionaries. In chapter 3, the limits and benefits of allowing the Christian year and lectionary to drive preaching are presented and evaluated. A six-step planning guide is the basis of chapter 4. Chapter 5 then serves as a summary and critique of the project.
