- The inductively formatted sermonic form will increase listener retention more than the deductively formatted sermonic form. Ten sermons were preached: five were formatted inductively, and five deductively. Retention of data presented was measured by a ten-question test which was administered immediately following each sermon presented. Each test consisted of eight true or false and two multiple choice questions. Statistical t-tests were used to compare the mean score of the inductive and deductive sermon formats. The major hypothesis tested established the hypothesis and demonstrated that retention of data presented was greater when the inductive format was employed.
