- Abstract
- This study examines the faith experience of Mexican Catholics in southern California. Interviews with Mexican Catholics show the centrality of popular religiosity and sacramental practice. Historical antecedents in Nahuatl religion and Spanish Catholicism are explored. The theology of Deck and Elizondo are then presented as current reflection upon this experience. The movement Jovenes Para Cristo is examined as a model for ministry developed by Mexican Catholics, incorporating the elements of Mexican Catholic faith experience presented.
