  • The interactions between women and Jesus in Mark's gospel were studied from a Japanese feminist perspective to discover identity and roles for the women who were 'following and serving' Jesus. The remarkable analogy between the author's experiences of patriarchy in Japan and those of first-century Palestinian women is a major tool in reconstructing how the women in Mark became empowered and activated as full disciples. Conscienticizing implications are drawn for contemporary Japanese women who are under the influence of sexism and oppressive patriarchal authority.
