  • The thesis of this project is that female role models in ministry and holiness and inclusive images of God, which include feminine as well as masculine attributes, foster a more holistic, welcoming and hospitable church for both women and men. Miriam of Kadesh and Miriam of Magdala are held up as exemplary models. This research exposes systematic patterns of exclusion which have resulted in a subordinate position for women within the Roman Catholic Church. Using feminist hermeneutics, the author explores these issues through a critique of theological and visual art resources, and offers an alternative ecclesiology which fosters greater hospitality and inclusion.
