- The Church is called to incarnate Jesus to the world. As a result of buying into a cultural norm of individualism, Riverside has little understanding of the communal nature of the Church. The Enlightenment model of change no longer works. Education as merely transmitting information does not shape hearts or transform behavior. The way to change the theological understanding of the congregation is not by teaching a class, but rather, by changing the practices of the congregation. Communal practices shape belief. We enter the church through baptism. Therefore, I sought to change the practices surrounding baptism at Riverside in order to increase the congregation's understanding of the nature of the Christian Church.
