  • The relationship between pastor and congregation is crucial for the modern parish. The definition of 'pastor' as leader of the congregation is often defined by what he does rather than who he is. It is the thesis of this paper that the pastor as leader must be a confessor, a spiritual witness to the gospel which he/she proclaims. Dietrich Bonhoeffer's writings are utilized as ministry and congregational roles are explored. Also, various twentieth-century theologians and secular authors are cited for the study. The conclusion states that both pastor and congregation need to re-affirm and re-vitalize spiritual disciplines of faith as together they develop ministry for the local church.
