  • This research project analyzed the historical impact of race as causal factor in the negative growth in the African American United Methodist Church in the Western North Carolina Conference (WNCC). It outlined a pilot mentoring program called Residency in Ministry Program aimed at strengthening the African American Churches in the WNCC. The research was selective, and it considered the initial interracial evangelistic emphasis of American Methodism's Wesleyan heritage. It examined some of the ways racial thinking influenced the cultural, economic, and social factors that impacted church development in the African American churches in United Methodism, and, in particular, the WNCC.
