- Each Black urban United Methodist church is distinctive in its perspective and praxis. Through the use of a self-study guide, great diversity is revealed within a single congregation's mode of worship, methodologies in ministry, and procedures in administration. Difficulties in bridging intracultural and intergenerational gaps show the problems in attempting to establish a corporate identity and to define 'Black experience' for that corporate body. Urban Black United Methodist churches would benefit from engaging in a self-study program.
