- This thesis deals with the theological and homiletical challenges of preaching in an affluent congregation on economic issues like materialism, greed, and giving. Through data gathered in surveys and focus groups, correlated to current biblical, theological and economic thought, I outline what the gospel has to say and how the gospel might be preached in a culture of affluence so that people are receptive to hearing the message. The implication of my work is a broadening of preaching about money to address not just giving, but the economic struggles and realties of everyday life so that lives are changed and the economic powers might be reclaimed by the power of the resurrection.
