  • Amidst uncertainty in mainline churches, the project thesis is that un-churched persons' concepts of church can help shape new local church forms and be faithful to the church's mission. From a 'missional church' perspective, this research provides practical, biblical, and theological rationales to seek outsiders'visions of church. It presents findings from 'on-the-street' interviews with un-churched persons. Their images of church were rich, emphasized a communal faith dimension, and confirmed biblical and theological themes. This project concludes that un-churched persons' visions of church can help construct an ecclesiology for a new multiethnic United Methodist church and bring hope to the whole church.
