  • This study examines the book of Amos to find values for contemporary preaching. It uses recent scholarship which claims that Israel came into existence in the Highlands around 1250 BCE as a federation of heterogenous groups of marginalized people. The author reconstructs both the person and the book of Amos by relying on works by Gottwald, Hopkins and Coote. This sociological approach provides the preacher with new insights into the Biblical tradition and illuminates numerous connections of consequence for today's society. Three sermons are included to illustrate such connections.
