This work defines what makes counseling pastoral through a series of foci. First, there is data gathered from several week-end workshops for personal change conducted by a well-known pastoral counselor. Second, there is a discussion of such issues as ethics in counseling, the work of the Holy Spirit, metaphors of theological importance, and a series of practical questions that deal with such issues as evangelism in counseling. Third, the work describes suggestions for pastoral identity as a result of the data collected. The integration of practice, theory, and personal gain through the project defines what makes counseling pastoral.
