  • The purpose of this study was to determine the place and role of children in the church from the perspectives of the Bible, church history, systematic theology, and child development in order to ascertain what, if any, accommodations should be made in order to make contemporary worship inclusive of children, giving particular emphasis to the children's sermon. In addition to conducting extensive biblical, historical, and doctrinal research, the student delivered weekly children's sermons over a four year period in consultation with a core of selected lay persons. Academic research and data collected from experience indicate that the nature of the church is inclusive of children and that a segment of the worship service designed for children can not only be beneficial to children but to the total congregation.
