  • This project explores intergenerational tensions among members of Korean American Methodist churches in the Boston area. On the basis of questionnaires and interviews, the project identifies language differences as the primary sources of conflict within families, yet greater conflicts stem from the clash of different models of social interaction--authoritarian and Korean, egalitarian and American. These styles of parenting generate the same conflicts in the church as in the home. The project proposes that an 'immigrant theology' that accepts cultural differences among peoples and age groups will resolve these tensions.
