  • This study focuses on the author's growth in the practice of a healing ministry that uses healing prayer, the laying on of hands, and the anointing of the sick. The paper gives a biblical and historical overview and discusses contemporary objections to healing ministry. It examines three settings where healing ministry is practiced. The author clarifies his theological understanding and traces through journal entries his initial experiential involvement in healing ministry. He shares reflections/learnings which may be of value to others interested in beginning a practice of healing ministry. Among these learnings is the importance of empathic prayer and the engendering of hope. Conveying God's care and desire for wholeness for creation is crucial. Healing ministry should be an integral part of pastoral care ministry as well as of the congregation's life and ministry. This study encourages others to explore and practice healing ministry.
