- Life-cycle events such as birth (circumcision), marriage and death bring the clergyperson into direct and intimate contact with families when they are most vulnerable. The purpose of this project is to give the clergyperson, in this case the rabbi, an appreciation for the religious rite of passage as well as an understanding of its psychoanalytical origins and interpersonal implications. The project outlines the traditional Jewish approaches as well as the human and practical realities of three particular rites of passage. The author hopes this study will better equip the rabbi to make these life-cycle events spiritually meaningful and emotionally therapeutic experiences in people's lives.
