- After a century of Christian missions among the Ashanti people, basic tenets of traditional belief and practice remain alive and influential in the experience of many Ashantis, posing barriers to committed membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Employing anthropological and biblical perspectives, this project analyzes four religious beliefs and practices that prevent acceptance of Christianity among Ashantis, finding that a major problem is the traditional Ashanti concept of God as remote, unapproachable, and unavailable in times of crisis. To counter this concept Christian teaching should emphasize God as immanent and Jesus Christ as mediator between God and humankind.
