  • The thesis of this work is that the use of MPAA ratings to evaluate films for Christian youth is inadequate. The project identifies the most popular films of a sample population of college students. The worldview of each film is examined using guided philosophical questions based on James Sire's work The Universe Next Door. Next, the mythological and theological frameworks of the films are examined using a Christian modification of mythologist's Joseph Campbell's journey of the hero. It is assertion of the author that this model of evaluation provides crucial information for a more adequate Christian assessment of film.
