  • Dissatisfied with the traditional, business-oriented approach to church planning and programming widely practiced today, the author proposes that the Ignatian method of communal spiritual discernment is a possible alternative. He adapts it to the setting of a local church planning retreat. It is discovered that, although communal spiritual discernment is a viable alternative, it demands more personal and corporate preparation and skill in prayer and discernment than most congregations possess.
