- The question of what attitudes and practices foster a congregation's ministry to and with families who have an individual with autism, is at the heart of the church's theology. The church needs to come to realize that there are only two types of people, those who are disabled, and those (temporarily-abled) who will become disabled. In mission and ministry to families who have an individual with autism, a church can recover two important disciplines, hospitality and spirituality, by embracing three movements by the late Henri Nouwen.
