  • This thesis reviews some of the variables and factors that militate against the decline and loss of members in the congregational system. These patterns are examined in the light of Biblical/theological reflection, as well as psychosocial dynamics that likely affect a member's 'sense of belonging.' A review of spiritual renewal movements in the development of the Christian faith provides historical antecedents for the formation of a theology of discipleship mentoring ministry. The elements of this theological construct are found in various spiritual mentoring and formation models and they provide implications for both Christian growth and the retention of members.
