  • Social service ministries seek to restore wholeness among the individuals and communities they serve. Working with inadequate resources in an environment of need, they often sacrifice the well-being of the employees and volunteers who staff the ministry. Such ministries require a theological vision which encompasses the instrumental as well as terminal goals of the agency. The biblical concept of shalom or holistic well-being provides such a rubric. Contemporary theories of organizational development and transformation contribute insights into how an environment of shalom can be created in a modern organizational setting.
