- Abstract
- Until 2004, the otherwise comprehensive catechist certification curriculum of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh lacked a module for methods in adult catechesis. From the nature of catechesis as described in ecclesiastical documents, integrated with academic material on religious pedagogy (e.g., transformational learning, multiple intelligences, andragogy), the author distills principles for catechetical method and develops a taxonomy of methodologies for catechists to learn. The author also recounts the development of learning objectives and lesson plans for the adult methods module, highlighting the correlation of method and content for catechetical methodology. He includes an evaluation of the effectiveness of the pilot course.
