Abstrait

The author proposes that narrative preaching can nurture an alternative imagination critical to evangelizing declining congregations in changing communities, helping them find hope and discover vision for their future ministry. The thesis was tested through a case study at Zion Lutheran Church, Ferguson, MO. The case study involved a congregational storytelling event, six narrative sermons, faith sharing groups, and a questionnaire. She concludes that a storying process in preaching can help in renewing established congregations, and that proposals for preaching in such situations need to be considered in addition to programs in evangelism, leadership, and worship.
