This project report examines a six-month segment of a two-year program for training vocational deacons in the Episcopal Diocese of Maine. It reviews the history and theology of the diaconate as the living symbol of the servant nature of the Christian Church. The project uses andragogical principles of education in a series of monthly workshops. The project shows that this model has potential as an effective method of training. It also reveals some of the pitfalls and weaknesses.
