  • This thesis is that personal, therapeutic relationship with competent and caring Christians is the most appropriate ministry to the women who present themselves to Schenectady (NY) City Mission. The scriptural concept of the imago dei is examined, and the psychological and circumstantial rationale for ministry is established through research in domestic violence, depression, stress, and through experience in non-residential urban mission activities. The response is a proposal for the Schenectady City Mission to establish a habilitative residential program for four-six mothers with children. A successful ten-week 'Training in Therapeutic Relationships' program for staff and volunteer training is presented.
