  • The thesis of this project is that there is a definable difference in the lives and ministry of ministers who regularly employ times of silence. The method includes studies of relevant contemporary literature and of biblical references to silence, still, quiet, meditate, meditation, and Jesus' practice of going apart. An interview tool is formulated with five areas: life review, life shaping experiences and relationships, present values and commitments, institutional religion, and spiritual life. Interviews are consolidated and integrated and a report formulated. The conclusion is that background is not a determining factor. Events from young adulthood on are significant. The practice is difficult to maintain but benefits gained far outweigh encountered difficulties.
