Abstrait

This project intends to develop a model using preaching as a resource for ministry to persons and families with dysfunctionalities in an urban church. The project began with the premise that the Bible, and the stories of the lives of the people in it, has often been viewed as an authoritative document within the African-American community. The project lifted up through preaching various biblical family behavior imperfections and showed the 'presence of God,' as an incentive to move listeners beyond their shame and pain toward wholeness, growth and productivity. The preaching of family sermons, resulted in a desire for more sermons on biblical families. Changed attitudes and activity levels in the congregation and improved self-esteem can also be reported.
