- The move from cognitive preaching to combining the cognitive with emotive power of the text and the preacher is quite a journey for a New England Congregationalist. Dr. Frank A. Thomas' interpretation of the traditional African American sermon structure--Situation, Complication, Resolution and Celebration--challenges the preacher and listeners to address the feelings as well as the meaning imbedded in the scriptures. This style of preaching invites both speaker and hearer to revisit their past emotional experiences as well as their present beliefs. Ending with Celebration emphasizes healing and deliverance, rather than simply re-experiencing what may be very painful to both the preacher and the congregation.
