  • This is a descriptive project jointly sponsored by a synagogue and a Jewish family service which deals with the Jewish elderly and Jewish bereavement practices. Elderly Jewish people were interviewed to ascertain their coping with bereavement and to see whether there is any correlation between their religious practices and their ablilty to cope with loss. Simultaneously, bereavement support groups were organized for the elderly and were co-counseled by a rabbi and social worker from the Jewish family service. While the results are not conclusive, the study raises questions regarding the need for exposing the elderly to Jewish bereavement practices.
