  • This project testifies that persons with disabilities pose different questions and derive different insights in their work on biblical texts involving sickness and disability than do able-bodied exegetes. Writing self-consciously from an embodied perspective of disability, the author--who has used a wheelchair for 20 years--demonstrates how Scripture presents, represents, explains, and interprets disabilities. Distinguishing 'healing' from 'cure' and proposing a comprehensive definition of 'health,' the project invites and challenges churches to take up the work of building community with all persons, discusses why this has not been done, and demonstrates why such work is crucial.
