- In August 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the USA. The Virginia United Methodist Annual Conference offered to welcome those made homeless by this storm. This thesis examines ways in which local churches responded to and reached out to evacuees re-located into their community. It includes a working theology of mission. An embrace of biblical hospitality moves mission from a 'helper/helpee' relationship to a transformational mission in which all are changed. The thesis will offer practical suggestions for those who want to reach out and join in God's mission of love and reconciliation through loving relationships in their own community and the world.
