Abstract
  • The old, mainline New England religious ethos has not encouraged people to talk about faith. Nevertheless, members of churches in this setting do respond to invitations to reflect theologically and to talk about their faith. The author facilitated theological reflection by lay people in three different churches. Church life and committee work provided material for consideration. Participants readily accepted the invitation, quickly developing facility with responding to questions posed by the author, and making connections with biblical material. They developed deeper relationships, sense of purpose and excitement about sharing faith.
