  • This project is rooted in the author's conviction that God desires his church to grow in Canadian rural and semi-urban communities of 5,000 or less. The author, therefore, sought for healthy models among growing churches in such settings and studied their common characteristics. Twenty-one possible growth dynamics were identified and eleven churches were studied to ascertain which of these dynamics were common to them and to what degree they might account for growth. Fifteen characteristics were found to contribute to the growth of churches and nine of these emerged as significant. The data was then used to develop leadership seminars which were later tested in several non-growing churches of similar identity with encouraging results.
