  • This project emanated from the thesis that there is no experience more traumatic than the death experience. The hermeneutic was pastoral and involved two foci: the theological-theoretical and the experiential-phenomenological. The former dealt with paul tillich's being and nonbeing as it relates to anxiety. This particular method of study focused on the nature of pastoral ministry via living human documents (persons). It is akin to what is called a phenomenological hermeneutic. The data partially fulfilled the expectations of the hypothesis. Paul tillich's concept of being and nonbeing functioned well, both theologically and experientially.
