  • The project argues that humorous biblical texts are better understood and applied when the humor dynamics of the text are addressed in the sermon. Theoretical foundations to the project include a taxonomy of biblical humor, an overview of humor in the Bible, theological parameters for the use of humor, pedagogical benefits of humor usage, and personality dynamics impacting the delivery and reception of humor. After a series of sermons from humorous texts, hearers of various personality types were tested to assess awareness of biblical humor and the achievement of pedagogical benefits. Expository preaching aided the accomplishment of both goals.
