  • The community builder metaphor stresses a hermeneutic of community which finds at its heart the qualities of vulnerability, intimacy, solidarity, and relationality. At odds with a culture dominated by 'rugged individualism,' the preacher as community builder helps facilitate an authentic community of faith and caring by employing a collaborative model of preaching. In order to test the validity of these claims regarding the community builder metaphor, I worked in concert with eight laity from my ministry context at First Baptist Church of Forsyth, Georgia, developing an eight sermon series from the Book of Ecclesiastes.
