- With Wesley's understanding of spirituality and discipleship as a foundation, this study explores the assertion that small groups which employ a more holistic understanding of spirituality will facilitate in their participants greater spiritual growth toward faithful discipleship than other groups. Five small group experiences were researched over a two-month period: guided imagery, lectio divina, covenant discipleship, praying the office, and a service group. Dr. Newton Malony's 'Religious Status Inventory' was used to measure the participants' faith maturity levels before and after their group participation. Sign analysis results indicate the hypothesis is sound, yet statistically significant documentation remains elusive.
