  • This study seeks to assess the effects of sports in the lives of 550 persons from four theologically disparate congregations, with the results presented as a six chapter study course. The congregations are described as liberal, conservative, fundamentalist protestant, and catholic. The questionnaire revealed that these Christians are not as involved in sports as the general public. Comparisons of the four congregations show that on questions with social implications, the liberal congregation's respondents seem more aware of the ambiguities of competitive athletics and more skeptical of the symbiotic relationship between sports and religion so prevalent in contemporary American society.
