- Constructive-developmental theory addresses how people organize the experiences of life, give them meaning and form relational ties. Using examples of conflict this theory is applied to parish life, addressing certain phenomena in the contemporary church such as resistance to change and group thinking, particularly as it is manifested in conflict between pastors and parishioners. The theory is also used interactively with family systems theory and applied to aspects of ministry within the larger church. Understanding different ways people organize thinking increases the possibility pastors will be able to persevere with congregations and with the ministry itself.
