  • The doctrine of justification by grace through faith is the central doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is the doctrine which grew out of Martin Luther's Reformation experience. The author entered a study of biblical, theological, and historical and confessional foundations which would help to create a balanced Lutheran spirituality centered on both doctrine and experience. After a study of the conceptual framework for spirituality, the author sampled the understanding and practice of the spiritual life of 10 percent of the congregation. From these results the author wrote a primer entitled Living Life to God.
