  • This project explored Friedrich Schleiermacher's theology of redemption, held in tension with the theology of Karl Barth, in order to help participants make a bridge from their post-modernist assumptions to a deeper Christian piety. Founded on Biblical texts and the theology of Schleiermacher, the project initiated and assessed an eight-week intentional learning community within Palisades Presbyterian Church of San Diego, California. Weekly community meetings involved study, prayer, discussion, and spiritual practices. The project concluded with participants sharing piety statements that expressed how each person approaches piety, the integration of belief, disposition, and action, in an active life of faith.
