- Abstract
- The purpose of this project was to discover the various experiences of United Methodist clergy in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference who have encountered the dark night of the soul. A survey was distributed to the clergy of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church to assess their experience of the dark night of the soul. Interior influences like struggles with sexual issues, low self-esteem, and moral conflicts contributed to a greater experience of the dark night of the soul. Exterior influences such as lack of family support, too much free time, and lack of energy also played a role in the clergy's greater experience of the dark night of the soul.
